Humboldt Light Opera Women's Chorus, "The Babes"
The Humboldt Light Opera “The Babes” first performed in July 1994 as a group of nine singers with the name of “We’ve come a long way, but don’t call us baby!”, a word-play on a popular ad at the time. They sang a choreographed medley from the movie “Sister Act”. Sixteen years later, the group has evolved in name as well as number to a 20-25 member ensemble that performs 15-20 energetic songs at each concert with a varied repertoire that includes classical pieces, folk songs, standards, jazz and rock n’ roll. The founding and current director is Carol Ryder who is also the artistic director of HLOC. |
