April 14, 2013-Mami Wata West African Dance

Under the direction of Jessie Beck, Mami Wata strives to nlearn and study the dance of Guinea, West Africa with the goal of spreading a passion for Guinean dance with others through performance. This style of dance is an uplifting, joyous celebration that stems directly from Guinea's bright and vibrant culture. The combination of the drums and the dancers is an unspoken dialogue which can be comprehended through the rhythm and movement that is generated. African dance is a community celebration and when it is performed, the troupe hopes to bring that light and spirit to the dance floor.
