Art Talks

Join the Humboldt Arts Council at the Morris Graves Museum of Art for Art Talk Sunday on February 8th, with the artists from the exhibition 10th Street Studio. 10th Street Studio was the new home for four like-minded artists—Carol Andersen, Laura Corsiglia, Peggy Rivers, and Van Shields—who had recently entered into a shared space dedicated to creativity and mutual support. Now, it is gone. On January 2, 2026, a devastating fire swept through Arcata's downtown commercial district, destroying 7 businesses and apartments, along with the 10th Street Studio. This promises to be a deeply moving conversation, grounded in the belief that art is healing and that coming together is exactly what the artists and our neighbors need at this moment.

“Our hearts go out to all of the victims of Arcata’s fire and our deepest condolences to the artists of Tenth Street Studios who lost their new studio and years worth of work in the fire. It is a blessing to have some of the surviving pieces in the Thonson Gallery at this time of grieving,” says Jemima Harr, Humboldt Arts Council Executive Director-Curator.

With 110+ years of art making between them, Andersen, Corsiglia, and Rivers have all enjoyed successful careers. They each have works in significant public and private collections and have substantial exhibition records. Joined by emerging artist Shields, the exhibition represents each of their respective bodies of work.

Art Talk Sunday is a monthly program that brings together artists and art lovers for readings, discussions, demonstrations, and explorations of art history, techniques, and creative processes.
