Calling all artists! The Humboldt Arts Council will be accepting entries for the 30th Annual Junque Arte Competition and Exhibition at the Morris Graves Museum of Art. We look forward to seeing our community of artists on Wednesday, October 28th from noon to 5 p.m. for the submission of works. The exhibition will run from November 7 through December 13, 2026 in the Thonson Gallery. An opening reception will be held November 7th, from 6 to 9 p.m. during First Saturday Night Arts Alive!
Humboldt County Artist Kati Texas has been selected as the 2026 juror. Kati "Texas" Moulton, a sculptor, muralist, and the driving force behind Maker's Apron Creative Reuse, approaches her work with the spirit of a true performer. Drawing heavily on her background in sets, props, and costumes, her creations span murals, sculptures, and trash fashion, though her favorite medium remains the unexpected. As a multifaceted artist, singer, Kinetic Sculpture Racer, and former Rutabaga Queen, Moulton's practical approach to her craft was honed after moving to Humboldt and meeting local muralist Duane Flatmo. Learning the ropes of being an "entrepreneur," she embraces the discipline of treating art as a dedicated profession—showing up, working hard, and delivering for her clients. Today, Moulton channels that relentless energy into Maker's Apron Creative Reuse, where she focuses on finding innovative ways to repurpose old materials and ensuring no crayon nubs ever go to waste.
To be eligible, art works must be made of 100% recycled materials. Please review detailed entry guidelines available at the MGMA or at www.humboldtarts.org. Adult, Youth, and Group submissions will be accepted, and awards are given for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place within each category as well as a Best of Show Award. Awards will be presented to this year’s winners November 7th at 5:30 p.m., prior to the First Saturday Night Arts Alive! The public is invited to attend.
