The Annual Humboldt Arts Council Member Exhibition at the Morris Graves Museum of Art is a juried exhibition designed to highlight the fabulous art being produced by HAC artist members! Artists are invited to submit one piece of artwork for consideration to be included in this year’s exhibition. Open to current members of the Humboldt Arts Council or join on entry day.
Submissions are $15 per entry, limit one entry per artist. Work can be from the visual arts discipline-drawing, painting, photography, ceramics, sculpture, fiber arts, and mixed media. Entries will be accepted at the Morris Graves Museum of Art on Wednesday, November 11th from noon to 5 p.m. Awards will be presented at 5:30 on December 5, 2026 prior to Arts Alive for Best of Show, First, Second and Third Places.
This year, Marceau Verdiere is the selected juror for the Annual Member Exhibition. Marceau is a French-born American visual artist whose work explores memory, impermanence, and the quiet passage of time. Born and raised in Alsace, France, he now divides his time between Northern California and France. Working primarily in painting, and occasionally in photography and sculpture, Verdiere creates layered surfaces through repeated acts of building, scraping, sanding, and revealing. His paintings evoke weathered walls, eroded landscapes, and the subtle traces left by time, imagining what the patina of a soul might look like. They invite viewers to consider memory not as a fixed record but as something continually shaped by experience. Verdiere earned a Master's degree in Studio Art Education from the University of Strasbourg, France and spent two decades teaching Visual Arts and Art History before retiring to devote himself fully to his studio practice. His years as an educator continue to inform his thoughtful approach to observation, process, and the enduring dialogue between making and looking. His work has been exhibited extensively in Northern California and internationally, including solo exhibitions in Paris, Vienna, Barcelona and Itoshima, Japan. In 2025, the Morris Graves Museum of Art presented a solo exhibition of his work.
